The power of the stable isotope technique resides in the fact that the most commonly studied elements (H, C, O, N and S) also constitute the major components of Earth reservoirs (water, air, lithosphere, and organic matter). For example, oxygen is the principal constituent of most rocks and is the most abundant element in Earth’s crust. These major elements play key roles in a variety of processes such as weathering of mineral deposits, volcanic activity, ecosystem dynamics, climate change, as well as hydrologic and atmospheric events. Therefore, study of the stable isotopes of these elements can provide greater understanding of these processes.

Our capabilities focus on the determination of stable isotope ratios of H, C, O, N and S in challenging inorganic matrixes such as rock and water. We are also able to perform more routine stable isotope analysis in organic matter.
